High heels

JoJo Légreat: “ So, this would have been the summer of 2006 in Falmouth, in Falmouth, Jamaica. So, we are sitting on the veranda. This would be me, my cousins, my grandmother, and my great grandfather. This is late at night, and we are coincidentally telling ghost stories. So, as we are talking, if you can imagine a dark street, there are a bunch of houses, a bunch of homes.

And, on that street, there would be, like, one floodlight across from my grandparents' house. There would be a floodlight per house. But, we were so far apart that, you know, that, that light would just focus on one area, right? It wouldn't spread. So, we're there and we're talking, and we hear some high heels coming up the road.

But, the high heels, the way they sound and the way this person is walking, it is as if they are going to a party. We're, like, "Wait, when we see this lady coming, she's, I know she's gonna be good." We know she's gonna be hot, right? So, we're sitting there, and we're waiting, and we hear the steps coming. And as the steps come closer, they're getting louder and louder, and it passes underneath that floodlight. But, there is nobody underneath that floodlight. No one passes underneath. The sound just walks away, off into the distance.

Immediately, we close the grill, we close the gates, if you can imagine the island setting, and we're inside. We're outta here. And that's the story. And I remember that when I was, uh, this would have been like, I know I said 2006, this would have probably been like, 2002. My grandmother, she turned a hundred years old. We went to Jamaica as a family. I will never forget that night. Baby!”
